Prelude & Promise Robert Porembski & Kenneth Higgins Can you tell me where the children have gone? Where the magic is of poetry and song? When did flowers die, fail to reach the sky? The beauty that has faded right before our very eyes. Once there was a dream Like you’ve never seen Harmonic sounds were all around and Love would reign supreme. Seems we lost the way Forgot how to pray Just wandered lost at such great cost Like sheep all gone astray Children of the world it’s time for us to all unite And live our dreams, fantastic schemes, With marshmallow delight. There is a plan for everyman A plan to make us smile Make time for play in everyday ‘Cause play is so worthwhile © 2019 Robert Porembski Music All Rights Reserved

School Bells Robert Porembski & Kenneth Higgins VERSE: School bells will be ringin’ soon Got to get back to be professor’s fool. Leaves are falling and the weather’s getting’ cold, Nothing really happens we just grow old. But we’ll still keep in touch, Though we won’t see each other much. Writin’ our letters in our secret code! CHORUS: I’m just lookin’ forward to the summer months again. Where all we do is play and love and dance with all our friends. And we don’t have to worry about whether we pass or fail. Because the only thing we’re concerned about, is whether it’s coke or ale. VERSE: Goin’ to the beach was really fun, Hopin’ our song becomes number one. And oh, those summer nights of love, Sittin’ in my car with the moon above. But all good things must end ‘Til summer comes again. Winter this year is gonna be a little extra COLD! CHORUS VERSE: But all good things must end ‘Til summer comes again. Winter this year is gonna be a little extra COLD! CHORUS VAMP: Ring, ring, ring, I hear the school bells ring (school bells ring) Ring, ring, ring, I hear the school bells ring (school bells ring) © 2019 Robert Porembski Music All Rights reserved

Trinidad 03:55 video
Trinidad Music & lyrics Robert Porembski Lyrics Kenneth Higgins VERSE 1: Sometimes I sit and catch myself a driftin’, To dreams of wind swept sands a shiftin’. With beaches that are kissed by stars, Where I can sit and play guitar. It’s like a constant moving poem, That forms the backdrop of a home. Some restless spirit deep inside my heart, Tells me, it’s time to depart – way-o-way… CHORUS: I gotta get me down to Trinidad. From what I’ve heard, (you know) it’s not half bad. When steel drums play, you simply can’t feel sad, Down in Trinidad. VERSE 2: I see myself in this island dream On the pure white sands of the Caribbean. A tropical smile, just doesn’t seem so strange, Amidst the beauty and the wonder of the mountain range. The breath of a warm Parian breeze, With miles and miles of endless seas. Some restless spirit deep inside my heart Tells me that it’s time to depart – way-o way… BRIDGE: Trinidad, Tobago and the Port of Spain, All the emotion hits me like a hurricane. My tongue stretches out for that drop of rain And like sweet rum, it goes to my brain VERSE 3: Old man Ato sings calypso blues, While hummingbirds deliver the Tyrico news. Arimas carnivale shines along the sea, The children laugh as they sneak in for free. A distant drum plays a liet motif, That stirs a mermaid on the Bucco Reef. Some restless spirit deep inside my heart Tells me that it’s time to depart – way-o way… LAST CHORUS: I gotta get me down to Trinidad. And when I finally get there I know I’ll be glad The sweetest chocolate that you’ve ever had Down in Trinidad © 2019 Robert Porembski Music All Rights Reserved

Maritime Tragedy Music and lyrics by Robert Porembski VERSE 1: In a bleak and lonely lighthouse, Skipper Thompson thinks of ships. Of the many that have passed him by On life’s curving ellipse. VERSE 2: Feeds his seagulls bits of herring, While Ma Thompson fixes tea. What will happen when they take his job, When that light will flash electrically? BRIDGE: What will come of him? Once that ship sails in? It’s the ebb tide of his life. After eighty years, he has no more tears, He’s as dry as his ocean. VERSE 3: Now the island is deserted, No more seagulls stop to play. It’s as lonely as a place can be Now that Skipper’s gone away – Gone away. © 2019 Robert Porembski Music All rights Reserved

Winding Roads Music and lyrics by Robert Porembski VERSE 1: When I was young, I used to look to the road. I looked for greener pastures and I Searched the skies for stars that glowed. I wasn’t satisfied, when I was home I sat and cried, was those Winding roads, that I kept dreamin’ of. VERSE 2: When they called to me, I didn’t think twice. I liked the finer things in life, I thought those pleasures were quite nice. I lived and loved and died A thousand deaths from right inside, yet I Had to ride that path of winding roads. BRIDGE: Mountain streams, All my dreams, Make me reminisce Of the one I miss And what there is left to be found. VERSE 3: A decade might have passed, or possibly more And though I’m not much different I feel Like I’ve never felt before. about

THE STORY OF IN THE PURSUIT OF TRUTH & BEAUTY

In the late 1960’s, inspired by great albums like The Beach Boys, Pet Sounds and The Beatles, Sgt Pepper’s, two young songwriters, Robert Porembski and Kenneth Higgins, had a dream to write and create a "concept" album of their own. Originally, it was to be a "children's album for adults”. Their songwriting caught the attention of William Wheeler, the president of Chime Records, a small record company on Long Island.

Mr. Wheeler wanted to get in on the “rock & roll” thing and signed Porembski & Higgins as songwriters and Porembski as a songwriter/recording artist. He also gave them carte blanche to record the album as they saw fit under the production supervision of Porembski.

Bob and Ken wasted no time starting to record the project in as many of their favorite studios around the world, beginning, of course with the legendary Abbey Road (as Beatle fanatics, this was a no brainer for the two). The result of these sessions being the surreal opening track, "Prelude & Promise" and "Come Along Let's Wander" - both featuring the famous Abbey Road Mellotron.

More recording ensued at places like Western Recorders in Los Angeles with the legendary Wrecking Crew (School Bells) and Hitsville in Detroit, home of Motown (Wait & See).

There is also some International flavor as Bob & Ken recruited a steel drum trio in Trinidad ad well as some local seafaring musician's in Nova Scotia for the track, "Maritime Tragedy (which features Bob's Mother's 1938 mandolin).

Sadly, Chime Records did not survive and the project was shelved with the master tapes disappearing, until now.

The tapes have been painstakingly digitized and brought back to life with Porembski back in the producer's chair. Although not exactly as planned, the album is presented here, very close to the original concept.

Original scheduled for a 1972 release, here it is, some 40something years later, in all it's timeless glory.
