Ballad of the Class of 1970

from MY MUSIC by Bobby "Guitar" Porembski

/

about

Written for the Class of 1970 graduation party and performed once.

DEDICATED TO ALL MY CATHEDRAL PREP CLASSMATES!

Despite the pandemic we continue to celebtrate the 50th Anniversary of the Class of 1970.

In June of 1970, we had a class party at Joe Abbraciamento on Woodhaven Boulevard. Many faculty members were in attendance. For the party I'd written a special class song.

The song was performed ONCE at the party and has not been heard since - UNTIL NOW! For the anniversary, I've recorded a version of it for my album, "My Music" and created a music video with photos mostly from the yearbook.

My gift to the class, then and now. Happy Anniversary, fellows!

lyrics

BALLAD OF THE CLASS OF 1970 - June 19, 1970
ROBERT POREMBSKI

VERSE !:
There’s a rumor going ‘round I’m told
About the good, the bad, the brave the bold
Seems they’re all gonna take a giant step
To graduate and leave the Prep
And I don’t know if said story’s true
But if it is, I’m telling you..

CHORUS:
I KNOW THEY’RE GONNA MISS THE PREP
WHEN THEY GO MOVIN’ ON
BUT THEY’LL TRY TO TAKE IT WITH THEM WHEN THEY GO

VERSE 2:
For 4 long years they fought a war
Withs tests and teachers by the score
They’d sometimes lose and sometimes win
But now that battles at an end
Groups one and two will now depart
They’re heading for a brand new start
CHORUS

VERSE 3:
Just walk down and hallowed hall
There’s many a face you can recall
Like Father Keane who was quite a pain
When he’d talk too much about Charlemagne!
And a stranger by the name of Peaches
Who’s always there but never teaches
CHORUS

VERSE 4:
We all remember Monsieur L’Abbe
And his “golden goodies” every day
Now everyone give a great big howl
For our famous friend - the good old Owl.
And then of course who could forget
Old Smokey and his cigarettes
CHORUS

VERSE 5:
There’s Bill McFadden, looks really plastered
And Mike Festo, that hairy bastard
And then of course, we have “the eoose”
Every time he speaks, he cooks his goose
Now duck your head, ‘cause flyin’ low
Comes gliding by - Petite Oiseau!
CHORUS
