VERSE:
A long time ago, when I was very little
My parents looked at me and they
Said this kid’ll be a
Doctor, or a lawyer, or a banker
Or a salesman’s son.
But right from the start, you know
I always heard the music.
And it came to me, you know
I didn’t choose it.
Though I wondered why
It could make me laugh or cry all day.
Then one day my Mother brought me home a ukulele
I’d sit in my room and I practiced it daily
I write little tunes
And that was the start of my music!

CHORUS:
You know my
Music makes the world go 'round for me
It’s the only thing I see
When my eyes are full of tears
It comes and takes away my fears.

VERSE:
Well you know how one thing can lead to another
I went to the kitchen and I
Said to my Mother,
“would you like to hear a song
It won’t take us very long
I wrote it”.
So we sat in the kitchen and we sang songs daily
My Sister banged a pot while I played my ukulele
Then my Brother came along
He was no bigger than a song, so small.

Then one day my Mother said,
“You know I love you sonny.
Your music’s very nice but you gotta earn some money
So I’ll send you off to school
And maybe you’ll forget about music”.

BRIDGE:
So I went to school
And learned different things
But not as much as I learned from the music.

VERSE:
Now you know that life’s an economic situation
You gotta earn a living or your sure to face starvation
It can be hard too get along
When the only thing you’ve got’s a song.

So I sit in my room and aI practice daily
I play the piano but I kept mu ukulele
I still play in now and then
It’s a very special friend, like music.

And every time one thing leads to another
I go to my old kitchen and I sing with my Mother.
She’s the one who understands
And the one who gave me my music.
